HT - Hardness testing

This test methodology is typically applied to industrial components intended for use in industry, with a view to using this parameter related to the metallurgical structure of the component and indicative of its intrinsic properties.


The equipment used essentially belongs to two categories;

Footprint:
It involves the simultaneous generation of 2 Brinell-type impressions by hammering (one on the part under test and one on a bar with known mechanical characteristics).
The hardness evaluation is based on the comparison between the size of the two indents.

Ultrasound:
It involves the generation of 1 impression using a Vickers diamond, generating a resonant frequency that depends on the size of the surface of the impression.
The frequency variation generated by the impression is in turn a measure of the hardness of the material under consideration.
